Water Filtration Plant – Geneseo, NY Two personal computer workstations provide for monitoring of an Allen-Bradley SLC based control system. One workstation located at the filtration plant runs InTouch functions as the plant local operator interfaces and acquires data from the water filtration process and associated water pumping systems, via the PLC. Data is shown in graphical and tabular formats and communicates with other Microsoft applications for calculations and reporting. Reports include standard forms for NYS Health Department. Operating conditions are monitored for “Off Normal” conditions, and occurrences are displayed by alarm messages and logged to a printer. Data is also recorded for archiving as historical data. A second workstation located at the Village Sewer Plant, approximately nine miles away, is networked via a private telephone line service for remote monitoring and operator adjustments.
Sludge Composting Facility – Process Air Supply – Plattsburgh, NY Wonderware InTouch is used to provide a Man Machine Interface (MMI) for control of two (2) compost reactors, which converts digested sludge into usable composting material. Airflow to the reactors is provided by centrifugal air blowers and is regulated by positioning butterfly valves on the twelve (12) zone air supply lines for each reactor. Temperature of the digested sludge is monitored to regulate the airflow, and to maintain oxygen levels without reducing the temperature below functional limits. The MMI functions as the sole operator interface for monitoring and controlling the process. Allen-Bradley PLC 5’s, at each reactor, provide automatic control and execute one out of three operator selected control strategies. The workstation also provides required recording via reports printed automatically.
